The rolling mill housing is used to install all parts in the machine base such as rolls, roll bearings, roll adjustment equipment and guide facilities, and bears all rolling force. Therefore, it is one of the more important parts in the rack-type rolling mill, and has high requirements for its strength and rigidity.
According to the type of rolling mill and the operating requirements of the production process, the rolling mill housing of the general rolling mill is divided into two types: silent type and open type.
The arch of the silent rolling mill housing is an overall frame, which is characterized by good strength and rigidity. It is often used in rolling mills with large rolling pressure or strict requirements on the size of rolled pieces, such as primary rolling mills, billet mills, steel plate mills, steel pipe rolling and cold rolling, etc., and sometimes also used for steel rolling mills.
The top cover of the open frame is detachable, its strength and rigidity are worse than those of the silent frame, and it has more processing surfaces and high cost. However, its outstanding advantage is that it is convenient to change rolls, so it is used in horizontal steel rolling mills with frequent roll changes. The characteristic is that almost all large and medium-sized horizontal steel rolling mills use open frames.
There are many ways to connect the top cover of the open rolling mill housing with the vertical rolling mill, and the commonly used ones are:
1) Bolt connection uses two bolts to connect with the frame column. This type of connection has a compact structure, but because the bolts are long and deformed, the frame rigidity is low. In addition, it takes time to remove the nuts when changing rolls.
2) Ring connection This type of connection eliminates the straight wire holes on the column and the upper cover. The lower end of the ring is fixed to the column with a horizontal pin, and the upper end of the ring is connected to the column with an inclined wedge. This structure is more convenient for changing rolls. Since the cross-section of the ring can exceed the bolt or cylindrical pin, the rigidity of the rolling mill is significantly improved.
3) Round pin docking This type of connection is to connect the top cover and the column with a round pin, and then wedge it with an inclined wedge. Its advantages are simple structure and small deformation of the connecting parts. However, under the influence of wedge tightening force and impact force, when the round pin is deformed along the cut section, it is difficult to disassemble, which prolongs the time of roller replacement.
4) The top cover and the column are connected with an inclined wedge, which is convenient for roller replacement and has high rigidity, so it is called semi-silent rolling mill housing. This type of rolling mill housing has good application effect and is widely used.
In addition to the above rolling mill housing, rolling mills now also have prestressed rolling mill housing and archless frames. These types of rolling mill housing are generally used on small cable rolling mills.
